Just wanted to let you know I am reading Declining Fortunes after just finishing Chasing the Dream. I've read all of your books and love them all. Your stories land me right in the heart of Bodie which first gave me that eerie deja vu feeling when I stepped foot on Main Street at 12 until last month at 60. I love living vicariously through your incredible imagination, realistic conversations and the historical facts your weave so effortlessly through every page. In these unprecedented times your historical novels are a reminder of the difficult and fearful times that our ancestors faced and how we need to stay the course. While I am blessed with the health of my family and friends, food on the table and a beautiful plate to live here in Westlake Village, CA, my favorite time of night is settling down with a glass of wine and toasting my luck that I have your books to read. ~Lori

A few years ago I found your signed Carrie book in my library’s used bookstore in Southern California. The title caught my eye. I love history and I had just made a trip to Manzanar so I was familiar with lone pine. The book made me fall in love with the eastern sierras. When I made a second trip down the 395 I stopped in lone pine and bought your next three books. I’m so glad to see that you’re continuing to write and have two more books. I recently started watching YouTube videos of the owner of Cerro Gordo. It was because of your book that I recognized the town and everything described in your book was exactly what Cerro Gordo is. ~Amy

Just finished "Moving On", wonderful book. My great grandfather, came to California in 1858, and was at Virginia City, Stockton, and many mining towns. He was from Maine, ship building knowledge, so his expertise was in building the "wooden frame hoisting works"! I also have a stack of old photos taken in the 1860-1870s of the local miners ...etc. They were Hard working people back then, some times, I think we have it too easy. ~Leonard

Just read No Trees for Shade and loved it. As I have loved all of your books! I have been going to Bodie since I was 12 and had an instant connection. So 42 years later I could still go there every summer. Your books brings the town of Bodie and the Eastern Sierra experience to life. I really enjoy them! ~Lori

Hi just got your book No Trees for Shade from my husband for Christmas. So excited to read it. We visited Bodie late October, it was very cold and snowing. Very atmospheric. We were on a road trip around California and didn't stay long as they weather was getting worse and we had to travel onto our next hotel at Lake Tahoe. Bodie was fabulous. Totally sparked our imagination and our 2 girls who are 6 & 10. We took lots of photos including one which looks like a ghost! We read about the angel of Bodie after our trip and think it looks just like an angel! Spooky. We would all like to visit the area again, including the gorgeous and very cute Lone Pine were you live. Off to read your book now. Thanks ~Sarah

I just finished “No Trees for Shade” and I have to say it’s one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. I enjoyed the story and the history very much! I have been to Bodie many times and tried to picture what life must have been like there in its heyday. I like to look at the old mining equipment and tools and imagine the men using them, try to here the sounds they made and see what they looked like working. I like to look at the homes and business and picture how it would have been to live and work there. Now I have a much better idea! I’ve read more than a few books on Bodie and while they were filled with interesting facts and stories they didn’t give me the feeling of what it was like to live in there. For me that’s what you’ve done with this wonderful book, history and facts with a great story that adds people’s feelings to the history. I have a much better picture in my mind now of how the town looked and felt in the 1880’s. I can’t wait to go back and stand in those streets and look at the buildings again. Thank you for writing such a fun book to read! ~Ron
